Lawrence O’Donnell chokes up while defending Planned Parenthood: After playing a clip of Senator Jon Kyl slamming Planned Parenthood, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell defended the clinical service provider by reading an e-mail from a friend who had used their services in the past.
As he read the final words in the email from his BlackBerry, O’Donnell became visibly emotional. After reading the last portion of the email, O’Donnell placed his smartphone on the table and turned away from the camera as the show faded to black.
The show was taped before a budget deal had been reached between the White House and Republicans which preserves federal funding for Planned Parenthood. The framework of the federal spending budget goes to a vote next week and is expected to pass. [MSNBC]
I have a lot of feelings for this man. I want him to be my new dad. It doesn’t help that my mom calls him her “boyfriend”, rofl. LOOK, IT’S HARD TO FIND A GOOD, LIBERAL IRISH MAN. It’s between him and Liam Neeson for her.
I will defend Planned Parenthood to the death. I donate monthly to their organization and have done so for nearly two years. Sometimes I can only afford $5, but I give what I can because their services are crucial to so many women, including me. It saddens me and enrages me when people focus only on the abortion part of their services. When my grandfather lectured me after seeing a Planned Parenthood condom fall out of my purse, he told me, “That name is a joke. They aren’t interested in parenthood or families. They are trying to kill those things.” I was younger then and didn’t know how to respond. I was shocked that he believed that. I wish I’d had the words and the courage to tell him that he was wrong. I am so grateful that there are people out there who are willing to vocally and repeatedly defend the mission of Planned Parenthood, to defend my right to make decisions about my body and my sexuality, to defend my right to a minimum of healthcare.
I guess what I’m really trying to say is thank you, Lawrence O’Donnell. Thank you for speaking up for those of us who don’t have a voice or who just can’t find it sometimes. Those Republicans can get too damn loud sometimes.
